Introduction:
Latin Name: Cephalosporium sinensis Chen.sp.nov
Cordyceps is a Chinese mushroom used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for energy, male strength, it is also known as the Chinese caterpillar fungus because it is a parasitic organism that grows on a rare Tibetan caterpillar until the caterpillar dies and the mushroom sprouts from the caterpillar head. The source of cordyceps used in most modern supplements is not the pulverized caterpillar head, but a strain grown on soybeans or other nutrient source.
Functions:
1. Beneficiary effect on heart disease: In clinical studies, significant improvements were found in stroke volume, heartbeat, cardiac output etc. in the cordyceps sinensis group vs. the control group. And cordyceps extract has shown great results when used in patients with ventricular arrhythmia.
2. Beneficiary effect on respiratory and lung disease: Cordyceps sinensis has been used in TCM to treat symptoms associated with respiratory diseases, such as the upper respiratory tract, pneumonia, chronic bronchitis, pulmonary emphysema and tuberculosis.
