Latin Name: Paullinia cupana H.B.K. Synonyms: Brazilian cocoa, Paullinia cupana, P. crysan, P. sorbilis Caffeine. Botany: Guarana is a climbing plant in the maple family, Sapindaceae, native to the Amazon basin and especially common in Brazil. It is an evergreen vine. Guarana features large leaves and cluster of flowers, and is best known for its fruit, which is about the size of a coffee bean. The fruit looks much like a human eye when ripe. Function: 1.
