Sophora flavescens contains about a dozen alkaloids including matrine, oxymatrine, sophocarpine, oxysophocarpine and sophoridine, while matrine and oxymatrine are the two major alkaloid components in there.When taken orally, much of the oxymatrine is converted to matrine. Matrine is widely used to treat diseases such as viral hepatitis, cardiac arrhythmia and skin inflammations. Sophora total alkaloids or matrine could counteract arrhythmia induced by many causes, and the total alkaloids or oxymatrine could regulate heart contractility. 5. 0.3% matrine solution pesticide is used as a broad-spectrum long-acting pesticide in China market.
