Rock is the composition of minerals，it can be classified by different subjects. In geology, there are petrosilex, sedimentary strata, and metamorphite；According to shaping, there are massive rock, stratified rock, Peel-shaped rock and so on; Based upon the difference of chemical compositions, there are silicate rocks, soil alum rock, calcareous rock, clay rocks and so on. According to the different organization can be divided into crystalline rocks and clastic rocks.
Rock is the made up of the minerals and fluidity filling proportion.
Three different types of density of rock should be measured. They are: dry density, wet density and volume density.
As to mineral’s mechanical property, we should understand its hardness, cleavage, fracture, density and specific gravity.
The specific gravity of rock called bulk S.G，it’s about 2.50～2.80. The specific gravity of stone is differentiated by the character of the composition, the proportion and the void ratio.
Inside the rock there are voids which can absorb water, and this character can be showed as water absorption.
