1. Function and Application
Aescin as health care composition extract form horse chestnut,the plant too name Aesculus Wilsonii Rehd or Aesculus hippocastanum L. It’s chief composition are Aescin A,B,C&D. The four composition’s content are high 88% by HPLC，and assay Aescin number in 96-103%.Aescin is very safe than sodium aescinate, and aescin curative effect be similar to sodium aescinate. So aescin can take the place of sodium aescinate in something field.
The first reports on the efficacy of the horse chestnut for haemorrhoidal complaints were published as long ago as 1986 in Germany. The horse chestnut is a tree 25-30 m tall, which lives to an age of 200 years. Its native land is in the Near East, such as China and India. It has long been cultivated in Europe. The effect of horse chestnut tincture in haemorrhoidal complaints was reported in 1896. Nowadays extracts from the seeds are almost exclusively used fortherapeutic purposes. Their most important constituent is the triterpene saponin aescin. The seeds also contain flavonoids and coumarins. The main uses of aescin are found in painful external injuries, sprains, haemorrhages and local oedema. Preparations derived from horse chestnut seeds are used internally for haemorrhoidal symptoms and vein complaints.
