Imatib 100mg is an anticancer medication used to treat certain leukaemia cancer as well as other types of blood cancer. Patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) or dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans are also advised this medication.
Imatib has an active ingredient called mesylate erlotinib salt of Imatinib. It is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor with antineoplastic Gefitinib activity. It tends to block the activity of certain substances and prevents the cancer cells proliferate. Thus preventing the multiplication and spread of new cancer cells.
Before using Imatib, one should inform their doctor about their medical history of stomach ulcer, stomach bleeding, liver or kidney disease, underactive thyroid, heart diseases, congestive heart failure, or are undergoing chemotherapy.
Pregnant women or women who plan to get pregnant should never use Imatib. This drug belongs to category D and has high risk to the unborn child. Nursing women should also avoid using Imatib. Never give Imatib to children who are under 3 years of age.
Follow the doctor’s advice when using Imatib. Never take more or less than the prescribed dose. Take the drug with a full meal and with a glass of water. Make sure you take the tablet at the same time daily. Never break your tablet into half.
If you miss a dose, take it immediately when you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose (2 to 3 hours) skip the missed dose. An overdose can cause many health complications that requires immediate medical attention.
