Detailed Description
Carbon Steel Perforated Metal Perforated carbon steel has no specified minimum quantity of any alloying element and contains only an incidental amount of any element other than carbon, silicon, manganese, copper, sulphur and phosphorus. It is the most corrosive and least expensive of the commonly perforated metals. Carbon steel is either referred to as Hot Rolled, steel that underwent a rolling thickness reduction step while hot, or Cold Rolled, where the steel is cold reduced to the specified thickness. Cold rolling elongates the grains of the steel in the direction of rolling, making the steel hard and brittle. Annealing in a reducing atmosphere recrystallizes the grains, giving the perforated sheet steel the ductility needed for its intended use. Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled Hot rolled coil or sheet steel that has been descaled of oxide film by either a chemical method, mechanical method, or a combination of both and oiled for corrosion protection. Hot Rolled Commercial Quality A low cost steel with moderate forming and drawing qualities, for use where finish is unimportant Drawing Quality This quality is intended for uses where forming requirements are too severe for Commercial Quality. High Strength, Low Alloy Good formability because of low carbon content in combination with relatively high yield and tensile properties permit these steels to be used in lighter gauges to reduce weight in applications where strength is important. Readily weldable. Abrasion Resisting High manganese content in combination with intermediate carbon greatly enhances resistance to abrasion. Can improve part life 2 to 10 times. Moderate formability. Cold Rolled Commercial Quality Cold Rolled steels have improved surface finishes and tighter size tolerances than Hot Rolled steels. They are available in two classes: Class 1 is intended for exposed applications, Class 2 is for unexposed use. Drawing Quality Intended for uses where forming requirements are too severe for Commercial Quality. Drawing Quality Special Killed This steel has special retarded aging characteristics and is recommended for use when the material must be free of surface disturbances without roller leveling immediately before using and must be essentially free from significan
