I didn't like the looks of the bare painted wall behind the sink. Even though the sand color of the painted kitchen back splash blended well with both the dark tan marble like counter top and the mid-brown wood grain finish of the upper cabinet, it simply needed something to bring it to life. Since I'm only renting the apartment, I wanted to spend as little as possible, and yet make it attractive, but not over bearing. Something I can live with for several years.
My final choice was 2"x 2" ceramic for the kitchen back splash tile design. Choosing became quite a challenge with so many different colors, shapes and designs on the market. They come in very small to large squares, rectangular, rounds and hexagonal, and in ceramic, plastic, glass and metal.
To begin the search, I browsed the internet for kitchen back splash tile and got ideas from the large number of sites showing beautiful colors and many different designs. I imagined myself standing in front of the kitchen sink with admiration several times a day, day in and day out. Would I get tired of those colors or shapes a few years down the road? Some colors were darker than the counter top and some designs looked too close to the quite popular dark marble like counter tops shown in their model kitchens.
After deciding that ceramic tile would be my best option, I began to focus on five things.http://www.cnstonenet.com/
