Product Properties Nano-TiO2 photocatalyst is a white powder, with strong photocatalytic redox effect and high chemical stability. Under the effect of visible or ultraviolet light, it can oxidize and fully decompose harmful organic pollutants such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, dimethylbenzene, ammonia and TVOC, odors, bacteria, viruses and microorganisms into harmless CO2 and H2O. In addition, it has good water affinity and self-cleaning properties and does not cause secondary pollution. Photocatalysis Mechanism Nano-TiO2 photocatalytic degradation mechanism finishes the photocatalytic process in seven steps: 1. TiO2 + hv→ eˉ+ h+ 2. h+ + H2O→•OH + H+ 3. eˉ+ O2→•OOˉ 4. •OOˉ+H+ →•OOH 5. 2•OOH → O2 + H2O2 6. •OOˉ+ eˉ+ 2H+ →H2O2 7. H2O2 + eˉ→•OH + OHˉ 8. h+ + OHˉ→•OH When a photon with energy hv or with energy greater than the semiconductor energy gap Eg is emitted into the semiconductor, an electron is excited from the valence band (VB) to the conduction band (CB), yielding an highly active electron (eˉ) in the CB and a hole (h+) in the VB, and forming a redox system. The interactions between dissolved oxygen and water and between electrons and holes result in highly-active •OHˉ, •O2ˉ and •OOHˉ. The highly-oxidizing free radicals can decompose most of the organic pollutants on the TiO2 surface into CO2 and H2O, and to oxidize or reduce inorganic contaminants to harmless substances Application Area Nano-TiO2 is a good photocatalyst widely used in the fields of air purification, wastewater treatment, paint, cosmetics, plastics, textiles, ceramics, glass, odor removal and sterilization. For instance, it can be used to prevent animal diseases; produce multifunctional fabrics (e.g. anti-UV fabrics, deodorant and antibacterial fabrics, infrared reflection fabrics, waterproof and antifouling fabrics); produce highly pigmenting metallic finish and antirust paint for cars; and produce germ-repellent and air-purifying paint
