Detailed Description
Clay cat litter
The first commercial cat litter, and still the most common and widely available today.
It is made from natural clay.
We have two types: Bentonite cat litter and Attapulgite cat litter.
It is generally the least expensive of the litters. It can not be scooped and when soiled it is tossed out in the trash. It is heavy, absorbs urine well and does a fairly good job at controlling odors. But the litter must be changed regularly.
Depending on the number of cats using the box, regular clay boxes should be changed at least 2 times a week if being used by one cat.
One disadvantage compared with other cat litters is that clay particles tend to cling to your cat's fur and in-between their toes. In addition to leaving dusty cat prints on your floors, breathing these particles can cause respiratory infections.

Tips:
Many veterinarians recommend not using clumping cat litter as the first litter for inexperienced young kittens, as they may experiment with the litter and eat it.
Once you have a cat litter that your cat seems to like, stick with it. Don't change around if possible.
