Round level vials, also known as circular level vials, are spirit levels utilized to determine the levelness of a surface, distinguished by their circular or dome-like shape and consisting of a slightly concave surface filled with liquid and a bubble. Constructed from plastic, glass, or metal, these vials are chosen for their durability, cost-effectiveness, and precision, catering to varied applications and environments across numerous industries, such as construction and carpentry, where precise horizontal alignment is vital.
Angular value
The accuracy of a bubble level vial, or its angular value, pertains to the inclination of the bubble during movement. For round level vials, accuracy is defined by the bubble’s inclination as it moves 2mm from the center along any radial direction. In contrast, for elongated bubble vials, accuracy refers to the bubble’s inclination when it shifts 2mm along the axial direction.
Materials
Plastic or Acrylic (PMMA):
- Usage: Often used for general-purpose applications due to its cost-effectiveness and adequate durability.
- Advantages: Lightweight, resistant to breakage, and can be produced in various colors to enhance visibility of the bubble.
- Disadvantages: May not provide the same level of accuracy and longevity as glass vials in certain applications.
Glass:
- Usage: Preferred for high-precision applications and where high durability and resistance to scratch are crucial.
- Advantages: Excellent clarity, superior accuracy, and resistance to static build-up (which can affect the bubble’s movement).
- Disadvantages: More fragile than plastic and generally more expensive.
Metal:
- Usage: Not commonly used for the vial itself, but can be utilized in the construction of the vial’s casing or housing for enhanced durability.
- Advantages: Extremely durable and can withstand harsh conditions.
- Disadvantages: Can be heavier and more expensive than other materials.
