Company Advantage
The proponent is actively seeking an investor partner to assist in developing the oil processing and marketing business. The required investment is necessary to improve the processing capacity and quality seal oil in a Registered-Government Approved facility. The company has up until now semi-processed raw materials (skins and fat) for another processor and produced small volumes of frozen meat and by-products. To scale up production of high quality oil and increase volume the company must invest in new equipment and upgrade their facilities.
With investment the business can immediately process the following products;
• Edible Crude Seal Oil
• Frozen Seal Meat with Bone
• Frozen Seal Skins for Further Nutriceutical Processing
• Seal By-Products and Organs
Detail Company Introduction
Nutrican Inc. is the premiere supplier of natural edible seal oil Canada. Our main processing facility are located in Newfoundland and Labrador, the easternmost Province of Canada. The world’s largest seal population inhabits the cold, clean waters surrounding our coastline. The seal industry is managed by the Canadian Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Provincial Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. The evolution of our special process has incorporated the latest in oil processing technology combined with our accumulated experience with the intrinsic characteristics of seal fat. Our quality assurance program incorporates HACCP principles and an evaluation of chemical, microbiological and physical contamination at each stage of the process. Our quality is further verified by independent laboratory analysis to ensure our standards meet customer and international regulatory quality. Our entire oil process takes place in a licensed, government regulated and inspected facility.
Nutrican Inc. is supportive of scientific research and management of seal resources, including;
Omega-3 Fatty Acids “Pure and Essential”
Seal oil is an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3’s are a special type of long-chain fatty acids, a pure unsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) which is known as “good-healthy fat”. Seal oil contains high levels of EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid), DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) and up to ten times the level of DPA (Docosapentaenoic acid) found in fish oils. These essential fatty acids have been bio-filtered by the seal and are easily absorbed and metabolized by the human body. Nutritionists and physicians recommend the daily intake of Omega-3 fatty acids as part of a healthy diet. The current annual average consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids in North America and Europe is about 200g or about 20% of the recommended intake. Supplementing our diets with 2x 500mg capsules per day can make up for this deficiency. Clinical studies conducted over the past 20 years continue to link Omega-3’s with improved general health, preventative care and overall maintenance.
Our Process
Raw material grading is the first step in producing quality seal oil and we uses a strict raw material grading protocol limiting only the freshest blubber to edible oil products. We also remove and segregate the outer layer of fat (that which contains meat and is rich in hemoglobin and iron) and use this material for industrial oil products. To further improve our input material we cold process and refine the bulk fat before it is liquefied. We use a pulp screener similar to that used in the fruit industry to remove any hard fat, collagen material and meat protein. The removal of these by-products early in the refining process contributes to higher grade finished oil which exhibits improved colour, odour and other physiochemical properties.
We employ a continuous process with low-temp indirect contherm melting, decanter centrifugation, high speed centrifugation and a winterization process. The winterization of oil removes semi-solid precipitate fats which develop over continued refrigerated storage. The result is improved stabilized quality. After winterization the liquid oil is further refined in a special 2-stage multi-media filter rated at 99.99% efficiency to <1.0 micron. For pharmaceutical grade oil we add more processing steps including bleaching to remove trace metals, the products of oxidation and we deodorize through indirect steam distillation to remove volatile components. Our all natural process is unsurpassed in the industry and our special attention ensures we meet the most demanding customer specifications.
